Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

We are no longer requiring the GRE. There is no need to send us your scores as they will not be reviewed.

Transcripts

You must submit official transcripts from all institutions directly to VMCAS electronically or via the mail.

If a school uses a system other than a 4.0 letter-grade scale, we require a grade conversion along with the transcript, if available.

Testing Scores

OSU CCVM accepts the following credits for lower division courses: Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) Credits.

Interviews

After initially reviewing all qualified Oregon resident applications, the admissions committee selects candidates for interviews. CCVM faculty members and representatives from the Oregon veterinary community will participate in the interview process. OSU utilizes the the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) format. An MMI consists of a series of short, structured interview stations used to assess non-cognitive qualities including cultural sensitivity, maturity, teamwork, empathy, reliability and communication skills. Prior to the start of each mini interview rotation, candidates receive a question/scenario and have a short period of time (two minutes) to prepare an answer. Upon entering the interview room, the candidate has a short exchange with an interviewer/assessor (five minutes). At the end of each mini interview, the interviewer evaluates the candidate’s performance while the applicant moves to the next station. This pattern is repeated through a number of rotations.

The situational questions posed in a MMI may touch on the following areas:

  1. Ethical Decision Making
  2. Critical Thinking
  3. Communication Skills
  4. Leadership/Management Skills
  5. Self-Awareness
  6. Creativity

Although participants must relate to the scenario posed at each station, it is important to note that the MMI is not intended to test specific knowledge in the field of veterinary medicine. Instead, the interviewers evaluate each candidate’s thought process and ability to think on his or her feet. As such, there are no right or wrong answers to the questions posed in a MMI, but each applicant should consider the question from a variety of perspectives.

*Applicants invited for interviews will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to the MMI.

Residency Requirements

Approximately forty Oregon residents and forty non-residents will be accepted each year into the Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine at OSU.

Oregon residents are required to be certified as in-state residents by September 1, 2025. Any concerns regarding residency certification should be directed to the OSU Office of Admissions Residency Classification Officer.

WICHE Applicants

The approximately forty available non-resident positions include positions for students who are applying through the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) contract from Hawaii, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, and Wyoming. Under the terms of the WICHE Compact, select top-ranked certified students admitted from WICHE states are sponsored by their home state and pay resident tuition and fees. If you live in a WICHE state and would like to be considered for WICHE funding, you must apply to your home state for certification no later than October 15.
