Friends, I have been blogging for 17 years now, and I realized I had never shared my personal testimony example.
However, I started hearing that still small voice urging me to put out my testimony over the past few months. I postponed the testimony because, honestly, I didn’t want to be vulnerable, and I was really self-conscious about it all.
After recording a video version of the testimony, I almost pulled it down because I was just afraid. However, I’m happy to report that I did hit publish, and my testimony is available on YouTube as of today. The link to the video is at the end of this post.
A testimony is a testament, declaration, or proof of our faith in Christ in our lives. It shows how God has been at work in your life! It essentially gives a story of one’s relationship and a confession of His saving Grace.
A testimony can be likened to a bridge that God uses to draw people to Him. It’s a powerful take that can plant seeds in people to lead to salvation, deliverance, encouragement, or more.
Before I share scripture on testimony, I wanted to share that my favorite testimony in the New Testament is, hands down, that of Paul! Paul’s conversion testimony is moving, and it’s impressive to see his transformation and ultimate dedication to furthering the gospel. (Read Acts 10)
I want to highlight the following Key Verses in Acts 10:
Immediately he preached [e] the Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God. Then all who heard were amazed, and said, “Is this not he who destroyed those who called on this name in Jerusalem, and has come here for that purpose, so that he might bring them bound to the chief priests?”. But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who dwelt in Damascus, proving that this Jesus is the Christ.
Acts 9:20-22
I want to highlight that when he started preaching, he proved that Jesus is Christ. His testimony was even more powerful because of a radical shift from his past life. Because he knew the scriptures well (he was a Rabbi and a Pharisee), he was able to provide irrefutable proof that Jesus is indeed the Messiah.
The following are additional verses to ponder:
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Revelation 12:11
And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
John 15:27
When I started seriously looking at sharing my testimony, I remember looking online to see how I could probably share my testimony. I came across numerous structured worksheets that totally overwhelmed me.
There were many dos and don’ts, and I started wondering if my testimony would be “good enough,” and honestly, I was terrified of making a mistake. I then just thought of praying and asking the Holy Spirit to guide me on sharing the testimony. I then decided to refrain from looking online and look to God…

When I was preparing for my testimony, I noted my background to help people understand the testimony better.
The body of your testimony should highlight any circumstances and challenges you encountered. For my testimony, I took the time to state my challenges with legalism and how it really disrupted my faith walk. I ensured to be methodical so that it was easy to understand.
This is the opportunity to bring a call to action and point people to Christ. I took the opportunity to highlight mercy and encourage others that God can come to their aid if they feel lost.
The following are things I thought to keep in mind when sharing my testimony:
I tried my best to refrain from Christian jargon as not everyone understands it. I wanted my testimony to be easy to understand and not distract non-believers.
I wanted anyone who runs on to my video to be able to follow through… Even if they weren’t raised in the church like I was.
I’m more gifted in writing than speaking, so I pointed to a very detailed blog post that I wrote so that someone who is seeking deliverance from legalism can read and be set free.
I soon realized that the enemy is keen on ensuring that you don’t put your testimony out. I saw some spiritual warfare creep up. I made a point of reminding myself not to worry and keep ongoing.
I want to encourage you not to be fearful of sharing your testimony. God uses people, and I think this is a powerful ministering tool. It can draw someone to deliverance or repentance. Although it isn’t the gospel, it can point people to Jesus Christ.
I have a bubbly personality, I love to be silly, and I love to laugh and giggle. I ensured that I didn’t suppress myself when giving my testimony.
Sometimes, it’s easy to assume that you are perfect if you have a testimony. That’s not the case! So don’t feel pressured! I made a point of mentioning this in my testimony also to encourage people.
